How to Know When Your CVRT Is Due

At Burkes Bros VTN in Tuam, Co. Galway, we care about keeping your commercial vehicle safe, legal, and road-ready.

At Burkes Bros VTN in Tuam, Co. Galway, we care about keeping your commercial vehicle safe, legal, and road-ready. A key part of that? Knowing when your CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test) is due. Here’s your friendly, straight-talk guide on how to stay on top of it.

1. Why Does Your CVRT Matter?

The CVRT ensures your commercial ride—whether it’s a van, truck, trailer, bus (with more than eight seats), or motor caravan—is safe and meets legal standards. Testing starts once your vehicle is over one year old and continues every year after that. It applies even if your vehicle isn’t used commercially (like a motor caravan).

2. Check Your Due Date Online

The simplest, most accurate way to find out when your next CVRT is due is:

  1. Pop onto cvrt.ie.
  2. Click “Check My CRW Expiry Date”.
  3. Enter your vehicle registration number—and voilà: your test due date appears instantly. You can also set up reminders, so you never miss it

It takes seconds and can save you headaches later!

3. How That Date Is Calculated

For standard vehicles, your CVRT due date is typically one year from the date of registration—or from the previous test date, if you’ve already had one
Citizens Information

  • For imported vehicles (without a valid EU roadworthiness certificate), the due date aligns with the date of first registration in Ireland
  • For converted vehicles (e.g. changing a van into a goods vehicle), the due date is based on the vehicle’s date of conversion, not the test date

4. Want to Know When It’s Due?

Here’s a quick recap:

  1. Go to cvrt.ie and use the “Check My CRW Expiry Date” tool.
  2. Enter your registration number to get your upcoming test due date.
  3. Set a reminder (either online or with us at Burkes Bros VTN) to stay ahead of it.

5. Why Don’t You Want to Delay?

Simple: Your Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) is only valid for 12 months from its due date, not from when you actually pass the test. If you delay booking, you don’t get extra validity. Worse yet, driving without a valid CRW can land you penalty points or fines—and nobody wants that

6. Book Early & Stay Compliant

Once you know your due date, booking is easy. For light commercial vehicles, you can enter your registration, pay online, and choose a slot. For heavier vehicles, just register on the CVRT Operator Portal and you’re good to go: operator.cvrt.ie

And, if you’re unsure or want help, give us a call—we’re always happy to support local operators.

Bottom Line

At Burkes Bros VTN, our goal is simple: help you stay safe, compliant, and rolling smoothly. Checking your CVRT due date couldn’t be easier—just head to cvrt.ie, enter your reg, and mark your calendar. Need a hand or keen to book? Talk to the team, and we’ll walk you through it with a smile.
